To: info-hams@ucsd.edu
Andrew,
I tried to order a Yupiteru MVT7100 based on the ACE Commun-
ications ad on page 11 of the November Popular Communications, shown
at $599. "Debbie" at ACE told me that they weren't in stock because
a whole container load had "disappeared in transit". After mulling
this over for a few days and becoming increasingly uneasy, I called
and cancelled the order. I have since learned that they cannot sell
that scanner legally in the US. I got mine from Javiation. In the
same issue on page 80 is another ACE ad showing both the Yupiteru
MVT8000 and MVT7000 for $399 each.

Login to ftp.cs.buffalo.edu is via "user" -- then at the foreign username
prompt use "anonymous" and use your full mail ID as the password when asked.

Kenneth: Many university (and public) libraries here in the U.S. consider
QST and CQ technical journals and as a result they subscribe one or both;
have you checked N.I.T.'s library thoroughly? (save some money that way!)

I need a little help with an English paper I am writing. The topic I am
writing about is jargon used by amateur radio operators. I am already
using ham, lids and an abbreviation. What I need is one more word that
has an interesting etymology.
Does any have any good suggestions? I am stuck and would like another term.

You (or someone else) brought up the `gerbils'; there was no mention of gays

You must be new to this newsgroup. Go back and read last year's stuff
I wrote about what the campus administration is doing about the problem.
The complaints came from several high-level positions, not me.

Frothing? Nope. Having fun seeing you get so agitated. I'm surprised
you didn't use any four-letter words this time, though. There are
better ways to express yourself, you know.
As long as you keep posting mean-spirited articles about me I'll respond
(in case everyone else is asking `How long is this going to go on?').
Remember, YOU initiated this - I apparently never paid any attention

the difficult part is finding a place to pin on your callsign tag ... and

Hi Lynn,
The league probably didn't scream when the on-line callbooks were
published because they don't publish a printed callbook. The other
reasin they don't complain is that the source of the call book is the FCC
who doesn't have a copyright on the info. once you pay the $600 for it
you can publish it in what ever form at whatever cost you like. They are
complaining because they feel that copying the info out of their
directory and making it available to the public is a violation of their
copyright.
cheers,

Ironic how we suspect each other's past: your hang up with cops' belts -
leather whips and chains, too?
Not much happened in the Coast Guard other than getting paid to play with
radios and the satisfaction of helping to save some lives; firefighting
back in So. Calif. was more exciting, though.
You're in Compton, Cow? Growing with with your scanner, if you listened
to the Orange County fire channels, you probably heard me on the air from

Oooops! The problem you are having has to do with all the things
Windows thinks it needs to be involved in, even though you are totally
unaware of all the activity... after all, it is Bill, and it is M/S
under neath all that...
When you select a DOS prompt from Windows, all the garbage gets hauled
around with you and the machine is kept VERY busy with its own
housekeeping... and doesn't care that YOU want to play with
SuperMorse.
The same is true of many other TIME dependent programs that simply will
NOT work under windows and require the *full* "attention" of the
machine...like SuperMorse.
It is a problem with WINDOWS and NOT with SuperMorse. When you want to
do code practice, just quit windows and go for it... if that is too
much trouble, get one of those wimpy plug and play not problem to use
with built in graphics interface (Mac) and enjoy life as a user... ;^)

Also is my US license good in Mexico or do I have to get permission

how do I get one?
Thanks for the help. Please email me directly or post to the

For about $6.00 you can buy the ARRL Repeater Directory. The
same directory that is currently being whined about. In it you will
find reapeters for the whole U.S.. Also every band is covered
separatly. Plus the European (Region 1) VHF/UHF band plans are in
there.
You can pick up this directory in any ham store, or buy it
direct from the evil ARRL.
